We all know that thinking positively can have an impact on our lives. It can help reduce stress and just make life better! There are many tools and techniques available to enhance positivity and manifest our desires.
Affirmations are a popular method. Yet many people often confess that their affirmations don’t work well or even at all. If you’re having difficulty with affirmations, there are some alternatives to try.
Affirmation Challenges
Working with traditional affirmations can be problematic for some people. Coming up with positive, present tense statements is generally not the issue. However, remembering to repeat them on a regular basis can be a problem.
Aside from consistency there is also the challenge of belief. It can be difficult to embrace a statement like “I am self-confident” if you really don’t feel that way. Although repetition is helpful in reframing your thoughts, your subconscious likes to argue every step of the way. Many people get discouraged and stop before they can overcome that nagging little voice.
If you are experiencing any of these challenges, don’t despair. You may have more success working with some of the following options.
Releasing Statements
Oftentimes our affirmations focus on a future goal that we attempt to bring into the present. In other words, we act as if we already have it. Instead of placing emphasis on what we seek, why not try releasing what we don’t want?
We all have things that hold us back which we would like to release. Things like fear of failure, procrastination and unresolved anger to name a few. These problems get in the way of our goals and manifestations. By releasing these issues we make room for positive thoughts and vibrations. Nature abhors a vacuum. When you release the negative, something has to fill that energetic space. Make room for good things!
Explore what you’d like to let go of and release. Here are some examples: “I release my fear of failure, etc.,” “I forgive myself for procrastinating,” “It’s okay for me to be angry. I now release my anger.” By repeating these releasing statements you will liberate yourself from the difficulties holding you back. In time you will experience a new found freedom and confidence that will propel you towards your positive ambitions.

Becoming Statements
Sometimes positive affirmations seem big and overwhelming. A statement like “I have financial abundance” can seem daunting if you’re struggling to pay the bills. Part of you might say, “Financial abundance? Are you kidding? I can’t even make the rent this month!” On some level you may also feel the pressure to have more money NOW and when it doesn’t materialize fast enough you put yourself down. To avoid these scenarios, break down your affirmation into a more manageable “becoming statement.”
Inspired by writer Suzanne Vachet, a becoming statement is less intense and doesn’t create as much resistance in your mind. So if financial abundance is the goal then try something like “I am becoming more financially abundant every day.” Still too strong a statement? Then try “I am becoming more financially stable (secure, focused, aware, savvy, etc.) every day.” Becoming statements seem more reasonable and believable. Use them as stepping-stones towards your goals. As you gain confidence and attain small successes, continue to build on your becoming statements. Keeping working towards bigger statements and eventually you will triumph!
Acknowledgement Statements
Another thing we often forget about when focused on goal achievement is acknowledging how far we’ve come. While releasing statements make room for new growth and becoming statements help to foster that growth, don’t forget the importance of previous accomplishments.
When you give yourself a pat on the back for victories you’ve already achieved, you create positive vibrations. Come up with some acknowledgement statements to remind yourself of prior successes.
After all, if you have succeeded before you can succeed again. Even if the goals are different this time around, you still have the capability to set your sights on something and attain it. Try a statement like, “I met goals successfully in the past and I am doing it again now.”
Try working with these alternatives to traditional affirmations and repeating them. You might find that they resonate with you. Most of all honor your willingness to work towards your dreams!
